Architecture as Tragicomedy
For the 2018 Venice Biennale, the Hong Kong Pavilion has proposed 100 towers by 100 architects to mirror the urban condition of Hong Kong as the city with the tallest buildings, compounding the irony of the reality and its interpretation. Rather than the comfort of going along with the flow, our team took the opportunity to point out that high-rise towers are indeed symptomatic of global wealth disparity and inequality. We decided to avoid the position of showcasing yet another tower that will most certainly be lost among the other 99 towers as a temporary object.
